Bonjour, I met a friend on Ile Saint Louis today, Bonjour,

I met a friend on Ile Saint Louis today, and decided to take a walk around the Islands in spite of the bitter cold.

It was almost mid-day, yet, away from main thoroughfares where the ballet of cars and bicycles remains uninterrupted, Paris felt quiet.

The Seine river is getting angry again. Water levels are rising. The quays are underwater in sections.

Nearby, Notre-Dame stands still, watching over the city she’s known for so long. The once bustling urban area around the cathedral seems to have entered hibernation.

I took viewers for a short spin around a deserted place Dauphine (Watch the replay on Facebook Live.) The elegant square built by a popular king at the beginning of the 17th century, retains its legendary charm, yet it felt strange being one of few people there.

This is Paris in 2021, like it or not.

Let’s eat brioche, Jeanne la gourmande!

Don’t eat it all: I am not returning to the covered food market before the 6:00pm curfew to get more!

You may know the famous “galette des rois,” popular in Paris, but “France with Véro” always makes sure to include life in “la province” too!

A local boulangerie offers the “gâteau des rois.” My southwestern French roots always bring me back to this scrumptious version, brioche-like, also known as “le Royaume,” or “la couronne bordelaise.”

Too bad I can’t share with students over Zoom!
